Saints coach aware of the importance of Scorpions’ fixture

It’s a classic six-point fixture for Kempsey Saints when they take on Sawtell Scorpions this weekend.

Both teams are neck-and-neck in the middle of the table and Saints co-coach Dan Baker knows the importance of the fixture.

The run home has started for most teams and Baker said the time to make their move was now.

“We pretty much really need to keep winning now to make the finals,” he said.

“We can’t afford to drop too many more points so every game from now on in we’re going in with the mindset that we need to win it.”

The Scorpions find themselves a point behind the Kempsey side although they do have a game in hand.

A loss for Saints could prove disastrous in their quest for a top six berth.

“With everyone being so close, it’s every game where you take points off other teams is going to help you out,” Baker said.

Saints won’t have any excuses this week with their consistent run of injuries continuing.

They have been largely unaffected by those sorts of disruptions throughout most of the campaign.

“I think we’ve only had a couple out a few times but we’ve been pretty lucky,” Baker said.

“We don’t have any excuses. Definitely not. We’ve just got to put a good game together but we’re still confident in our ability.”
