Lionesses come from behind to beat Scorpions

The COFFS City United Lionesses have maintained second spot on the ladder with a 2-1 victory against the Sawtell Scorpions, during the latest round of the Coastal League One Women season.

The Scorpions opened the scoring at Forsyth Park and took a 1-0 lead into half-time.

A second half double from Alexandra Gadd saw the Lionesses get the three points in a comeback victory.

The win sees the Lionesses maintain second spot on the ladder as they sit on 9 points with the Macleay Valley Rangers on 8 points.

Lionesses captain Jordan Maddalena was pleased with her team’s ability to respond after going a goal down.

“It felt good to come back after going down 1-0, and I think letting the first goal in gave us a wake up and made us switch on,” she said.

“Their early celebration made us stand our ground and be more hungry for the ball, and we did just that in the second half securing another goal that got us the win.”

The Macleay Valley Rangers were also winners in Round 7, as they had their second win in a row with a 3-2 victory at home against the Boambee Eagles in Kempsey.

The Coastal League One Women season takes a break this long weekend before returning to action for Round 10 on Saturday, 18 June.

Round 10 sees the Coffs City United Lionesses host the Macleay Valley Rangers, while the Boambee Eagles host the Urunga Raiders.
