THE URUNGA Raiders have set the early pace during the opening rounds of the Coastal League One Women season.
The Raiders sit at the top of the ladder with two wins from their opening two matches of the season.
The Raiders are the only undefeated side left, and aim to maintain their perfect start when they travel to Kempsey to take on the Macleay Valley Rangers this weekend.
The Raiders opened their season with a 3-2 win against the Coffs City United Lionesses, then backed it up with a 4-2 victory away from home against the Boambee Eagles.
Urunga have continued where they left off in the pre-season, when they went undefeated on their way to winning the Challenge Cup in Nambucca Heads.
Raiders coach Trevor Martin said his sides build-up to the season had been a key to their winning start.
“We had a good preparation and were able to train more than the other girls,” he said.
“It’s been a build-up over the last few years, and each game we find out where we can be better and have things to aim for.”
He also highlighted his sides depth as a winning factor.
“We play as a team unit and we have a lot of depth, and each team we play against has to face us as a unit,” he said.
“When we won the Challenge Cup we had 9 different goal scorers, which shows our depth.”
His initial impression of the new women’s competition was that each week would be challenging.
“There’s not going to be any easy games where you can relax,” he said.
