CPL Round 2 – Tigers V Scorpions

THE COFFS Coast Tigers and Sawtell Scorpions kicked off a huge weekend of football as the opening match of the Coastal Premier League’s inaugural super round.

The Coffs Coast Tigers earnt their first win of the season as sheer dominance of possession saw them beat the Scorpions 5-0 on a Friday night of wet weather football at the Coffs Football Centre.

A goal line scramble saw the Tigers take an early 1-0 lead in the 9th minute.

The Tigers dictated the early tempo and constantly had the ball in their own attacking half, with another cross and goal line scramble seeing them extend their lead in the 21st minute.

The Tigers dominated possession in the first half to the extent where Sawtell found it hard to gain the ball, which saw the Scorpions starved of chances and the Tigers take a 2-0 lead into half-time.

The Tigers controlled possession for much of the first half with patient build-ups, but the weight of possession didn’t equal many shots on goal.

The Tigers continued to pin the ball in Sawtell’s defensive half, and their continued dominance of possession would pay off in the second half.

Coffs Coast earnt their third goal after a long-range clearance of the Scorpions keeper in the 61st minute.

A fourth goal after a beautiful build-up and support play from the Tigers, and a fifth goal shortly after ended a top night for one of the premiership contenders.
