COFFS City United Lionesses are one of five clubs who are preparing to play their first game in the inaugural Coastal League One Women competition. The Lionesses take on the Urunga Raiders in their opening game of the season on Sunday night at the Coffs Football Centre.
Lionesses captain Jordan Maddalena explained the makeup of her side heading into the new competition.
“Our team consists of several players who have been a part of Coffs United for a number of years, with great experience under their belt whilst also attracting the attention of new players form all ages,” she said.
“We have had great numbers, so we’ll be fielding two senior women’s teams for Coffs United this season which we haven’t been able to do in the past few years, so it’s great to see the growth of women’s football expanding at our club.”
The United captain was looking forward to seeing her team be competitive in the new competition.
“What I’m looking forward to most this season I think is seeing my team develop and progress with our football, not just with the hopes of achieving good results but displaying our hard work from training onto the pitch,” she said.
“I’m also looking forward to showing how competitive Coffs will be this season.”
Maddalena said her side faced a tough challenge to open the season.
“Urunga will be tough, they seem to hold the benchmark for football over the recent years but we have held our own against them a few times and are looking forward to being a top competitor for them this season.”
