It was the win which could kick-start Coffs Coast Tigers’ Coastal Premier League campaign.
There was a lot to like about the Tigers, they were in control for the majority of the match with the 5-0 victory providing Luke Stow’s men with their first three points of 2021.
Rangers coach Simon Tamblyn, however, was left to lament a bitterly disappointing afternoon.
Even though they were understrength, Tamblyn admitted captain Chad Applegate wouldn’t have made a great deal of difference to the end result.
He was watching on from the sidelines after being shown a red card last weekend.
“We might have got some attack, but I felt we got dominated in the middle of the park so the ball up front would have been restricted anyway even if he was there,” Tamblyn said.
“Maybe it wouldn’t have been as bad, but I think they were far stronger.”
The Tigers were too fast and too strong, dominated the central areas of the field and Tamblyn conceded his team simply didn’t have a Plan B.
“We were dusted in the middle of the park,” he said.
“In the second half I wanted them to do something else and they didn’t do it so they’re the lessons we need to learn.
“Not to only have a single arrow in our bow.”
Elsewhere, Port United moved to the outright competition lead with a 1-0 win over a gallant Sawtell while Northern Storm and Port Saints shared the points in an entertaining 2-all draw.
Kempsey Saints outlasted a much-improved Taree Wildcats 2-1 while Coffs City United and Boambee had their fixture postponed due to the state of the playing surface.
