Coffs City United took a while to warm to the task before they continued their winning ways in a 3-0 victory over Northern Storm on Saturday.
The Lions were slightly wasteful in front of goal in the first half.
Their second 45-minute performance was much improved with Martin Kelleher, Chris Dooley and Aaron Allsopp all finding the back of the net.
Coach Glenn Williams admitted the scoreline wasn’t a true reflection of the game.
“It was by no means comfortable even though the score might indicate that. They came with a plan and are a tough, young team,” he said.
“They certainly gave us a physical battle which was good.”
It wasn’t comprehensive by any means, but the Lions did dominate passages of play at times with young duo Habib Narani and Jon Omtha impressing.
Williams said there were numerous positives to come from the match.
“They played well in first grade and having a clean sheet was a good result for us as well,” he said.
“We haven’t had the same team on the park two weeks in a row this season, so that’s been encouraging that we can just fit guys in and they slot in.”
The three-goal victory maintained the Lions unbeaten record and the coach admitted winning was becoming a habit.
He remained satisfied as it meant they had to work for their success.
“Everyone loves to hate us so it makes it more interesting,” he said.
“When we win we know we’ve had a hard battle because everyone tends to lift when they play us.”
In other matches at the weekend, Boambee and Sawtell drew one all and Coffs Tigers defeated the North Coastal NPL side three nil.
