The Lions attack was at its best on Wednesday night as they accounted for the North Coast representative side 4-1.
Scott Goddard, Jemila Oko, Habib Narani and Caleb Lokpo found the back of the net while Jarret Power-Casson landed on the scoresheet for the visitors.
Lions coach Glenn Williams provided an opportunity for a number of younger players to give some of his more senior players a rest.
He was suitably impressed with what he saw.
“Jon Omtha has been with the club for a while and he’s a tiny little lad, but I put him in the middle of the park and he played really well,” he said.
Despite the scoreline, Williams liked what he saw from the well-drilled National Premier League opponents.
“I thought they might have been bustled off the ball a little easier, but they were up for the challenge which was good to see,” he said.
“The game speed was faster than the other premier league teams up here because the North Coast lads are 16 they were sharp so it was a good test for my younger guys as well.”
North Coast’s Jack Dover was impressed with the speed the game was played at – especially for the opening half an hour.
“Our side has not been exposed to any games of that level, so it was a fantastic experience for our players,” he said.
In other midweek matches, Coffs Coast Tigers registered a hard-fought 2-1 win over a much-improved Sawtell, while Boambee held off Northern Storm 2-1.
