Coffs United were crowned winners of the inaugural Coastal Premier League but they had to wait a week because the trophy was 130km down the Pacific Highway at Port Macquarie.
Port Saints were leading the comp and expected to secure 3 points and win the Coastal Premier League, but their cross town rivals Port United spoiled the party with a 2-0 victory.
This left the door open for Coffs United who took the 3 points with a 3-1 win against the Northern Storm and the Coastal Premier League.
Club captain Aaren Allsop commented “We normally play grand finals, so it’s obvious if you’ve won or lost. Now I understand why the last game of the season in the English Premier League is such a crazy day! “
“To be honest we didn’t want the season end, every match has been competitive and the standard of football has been raised. That’s credit to the Football Clubs, the Coastal Premier League, North Coast Football and Mid Coast Football.
“The football community has really come together through a crisis. We had a good celebration last week but now we are focused on the zonal comp and delighted with the win against Sawtell. We can’t wait for next year.”
