Coastal Premier League (CPL) today announced that this Sunday’s local derby between Kempsey Saints and Macleay Valley Rangers – the Kay Clarke Shield – would be postponed to a future date and different venue.
The match was scheduled for 3.00 pm, Sunday, 16 August 2020. at Eden Street Sporting Fields.
Concerns have been raised with the CPL that the event has generated enormous interest in the community and may have attracted a significant number of spectators, putting it in breach of the COVID-19 Safety Plan of the home club, Kempsey Saints.
The COVID-19 Safety Plan is a requirement of the NSW Government to enable the conduct of sport and business. It places restrictions on the number of people who can participate and attend sporting events.
As a precaution, the CPL decided to postpone the match and the Kay Clarke Shield. It will be rescheduled to a future date, at a gated ground that can accommodate spectators.
